Policy and governance

“This research aims to co-create novel policy and governance solutions for critical raw materials across national and international levels, which will assist public and private actors to navigate the complex and fast-changing governance landscape.”

Lisa Dellmuth, Stockholm University

This work package focuses on increasing knowledge on trade-offs in the national and global politics and governance of critical raw materials, and aims to provide policy recommendations for Swedish government and international institutions - which is key as the world transitions from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

The work package will focus on four main task:

  1. Mapping and explanation of the emerging global governance architecture relevant for critical raw materials.

  2. Policymaking, focusing on a novel dataset on governance initiatives of unprecedented reach. Map and explain policies on critical raw material at national and international level.

  3. Engage in an expert elicitation (EE) about trade-offs, risks, benefits, and solutions associated with critical raw material governance.

  4. Bottom-up stakeholder-based visioning process to identify governance innovations that mining affected social groups and industry actors themselves consider as promising.
