Mistra Mineral Governance takes part in the Swedish Mining Research and Innovation Days 2024

Programme Director André Månberger from Lund University, and Niklas Rossbach from the Swedish Defence University attended the Swedish Mining Research and Innovation Days 2024, 6 -7th May in Luleå.

The theme for the two day event was innovation of today, and innovation of tomorrow, with speakers highlighting innovation needs relating to the innovation landscape in the mining and metal sector in Sweden.

André and Niklas took part in a panel entitled: Raw Material and Resilience - a sustainable supply of metals and minerals together with a number of other speakers during 6th of May.

During the panel session, Niklas presented on geopolitics and uncertainty in world developments, whereas André, in his talk, gave examples of current knowledge gaps, and how the Mistra Mineral Governance programme will work to address some of these.

Both André and Niklas touched on the value of interdisciplinary research for resilience and sustainability in the sector, and for securing access to critical raw materials.

Niklas says:

– It was exciting to take part, with lively discussion. It was also valuable with different perspectives from several different sectors and industries

André adds:

– It was nice to be invited and to see the interest in our interdisciplinary research from both companies, authorities and researchers from other subject areas. We had interesting discussions during the panel session on the role of research, and afterwards discussed our work with various stakeholders"
